Before placing the smartphone into the machine for laser removal of the back cover, it needs to be prepared.
Even though the template already marks the areas for the flash and cameras, we still cover the lenses with special foil tape, just in case, to make sure the camera sensors aren’t accidentally damaged by the laser 😀.
Of course, the display module is also removed beforehand. This makes it easier to find and remove glass shards, since they could otherwise damage flex cables, the battery, or the display.
Using a laser rangefinder, we measure the exact distance to the smartphone’s housing.
We set the template and adjust the laser parameters.
We start the process of burning off the back cover. In fact, the laser burns away the paint layer underneath the glass.
This takes about two minutes.
After the laser has done its work, the back cover looks like this (see picture).
The glass separates from the housing without any problems and without applying any force 👍.
We remove the remaining pieces of glass, clean off the old adhesive, and degrease the surface.
Next, we apply a special polyurethane adhesive to the housing and install the new glass.
On the old cover, after the laser treatment, you can clearly see the areas where adhesive should be applied.
We fully reassemble the smartphone and place it under a press for several hours to ensure the back cover bonds properly.
We clean off any leftover glue along the edges, if present, and hand the device back to the customer 🔥
