Apple iPhone 13 Mini

⚠️ Before disassembling, do not forget to turn your phone off.

So, we got this iPhone 13 Mini for repair—the front camera and Face ID weren’t working.

The front camera just wouldn’t turn on. When we tried switching to it, the phone stayed on the rear camera.

When we tried setting up Face ID, it gave us an error saying the feature wasn’t available.

1️⃣ We opened up the phone and checked out the front camera and Face ID module. Everything looked fine at first glance.

We hooked up a new front camera assembly, and that’s when we realized the problem was definitely with the camera.

2️⃣ To test Face ID, we connected the new front camera assembly on top of the old one.

Basically, we used the flex cable from the new assembly for the front camera and the flex cable from the original assembly for Face ID.

We reconnected the display, and boom—both features started working!

Now, we just had to combine the working parts into one assembly. 😁

We carefully took out the working front camera from the new assembly.

3️⃣ We used wire cutters to snip the spot-welded metal on the side.

4️⃣ We bent the metal on the back of the assembly.

5️⃣ We used a scalpel to cut through the glue between the camera and the metal frame, then pulled out the camera.

6️⃣ On the original assembly, we decided to cut the metal from the back instead, so we could keep that little metal tab.

It’s super important because it helps hold the whole assembly in place inside the phone! 🙂

7️⃣ Here’s where we cut the metal.

8️⃣ We combined the working front camera with the working Face ID module into one assembly.

9️⃣ We put everything back into the phone.

Front camera’s working now! 👍

Face ID is working perfectly too! 👍
