Huawei Y8p (AQM-LX1), Honor 30i (LRA-LX1) no backlight, black screen! (SOLUTION)

Today, we have a Huawei Y8p (also known as the Honor 30i) for repair. These two models are essentially the same, so the repair process will be identical for both 😊.

1️⃣ As usual, we start by disassembling the smartphone and diagnosing the cause of the display issue.

⚡️ Over the years, I’ve built up a large collection of partially broken, unused display modules. These help me quickly confirm whether the issue lies with the display or not.

In this case, the problem turned out to be with the main board 🙂.

2️⃣ I used a multimeter to check the contacts on the display connector. There were no breaks, and the other readings seemed normal.  
This means we’ll need to inspect the part of the board responsible for the display backlight.  

3️⃣ Carefully, I cut around the edges of the metal shield to gain access to the underlying components.  

4️⃣ After removing part of the shield, I gained access to the backlight driver and its surrounding circuitry.

I tested the components with a multimeter and found no breaks or short circuits nearby.  

5️⃣ I took replacement parts from a donor board and replaced the backlight driver IC and the coil on the main board.  

6️⃣ I reconnected the board to the chassis for testing and covered the exposed area with Kapton tape 😆.

Even though the display is cracked, the black screen is no more! 😂
