Repair of Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T: No Backlight, No Display After Moisture Ingress

⚠️ Before disassembling, do not forget to turn your phone off.
Today, we received a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T for repair with a malfunction - the display doesn't work.
This is a very common problem with this model—even a small amount of moisture on the back cover can cause damage. A few drops of water can seep into the gap between the back cover and the main camera.
Right below the camera, the display connector is located, and the closest pin on the connector is responsible for the backlight.
This pin is always under voltage, so it burns out immediately. 🔥
Here’s a view of the connector from both sides. It’s clear that we need to replace the connector and repair the damaged traces.
The same connector can be salvaged from a broken display of a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10/10S. 😊
We removed the damaged connector, cleaned the damaged traces with a scalpel, and tinned the contacts.
We applied flux, prepared the new connector for installation, and soldered it in place using a soldering station.
For extra reliability, we double-checked and re-soldered the contacts under a microscope. 😊
We also replaced the connector on the display flex cable and restored the backlight connection.
Everything works now!
Since only a small amount of moisture got inside, nothing besides the backlight was damaged.
There aren’t even any visible signs of moisture on the display when viewed against a white background. 😊
