Replacing the 5300 mAh Battery on a Samsung A50

The customer brought in a phone for a battery replacement. He bought a 5300 mAh high-capacity battery on AliExpress. (This is not an ad—we haven’t tested the battery ourselves.)

We start by disassembling the phone. As usual, heat the back cover to about 70°C (160°F) and use a thin plastic film to cut through the adhesive under the cover.

⚠️ Note: At the bottom, the antenna cable is attached to the middle frame. On Samsung phones from this year, it’s very thin and often gets torn. It can be repaired, but it’s not an easy fix.

Remove the screws with a Phillips #000 screwdriver.

Detach the middle frame and use a non-metal tool to disconnect the battery connector.

Disconnect the inter-board flex cables.

Now disconnect the battery.

On this model, you can safely use isopropyl alcohol without worrying about openings under the battery leading to the display.

Take out the new battery and compare it with the original one.

This replacement is slightly longer and thicker, but not by much. The connector matches the original.

Clean the battery slot, removing leftover adhesive with isopropyl alcohol and a cloth.

Prepare the battery connector. Then apply the adhesive strips from the new battery kit.

Peel off the protective layer and stick the battery onto the display frame. Press gently to make sure it’s secure.

Reconnect the inter-board flex cables.

Clean off the remaining adhesive from the middle frame and back cover. This is time-consuming and can take up to half an hour.

Now we connect the battery connector, reattach the middle frame, and test the new battery.

Turn the phone off and continue reassembly. Screw everything back in.

Apply sealant around the edges of the back cover. Again, be careful with the thin cable at the bottom.

Finally, test the phone again to make sure it powers on and charges.

Secure the back cover with rubber bands and leave it for a couple of hours to let the sealant dry.
