Samsung Galaxy A54 SM-A546

A Samsung A54 smartphone was brought in for repair, with the customer reporting a non-functional microphone.

Upon visual inspection, burn marks were noticeable on the paintwork of the back cover, both at the top and bottom. These marks closely resemble those caused by exposure to a microwave oven 😊.

Opening the phone confirmed our suspicions. The plastic cover inside, protecting the main board, showed signs of melting.

The same was true for the lower part.

We removed the screws and took off the plastic cover. It became evident that the electronic components and the PCB itself were burnt in areas where the contacts touched the external antenna.

The lower board, plastic antenna assembly, and speaker were also damaged beyond repair.

While the lower sub-board and plastic antennas can be replaced with new ones, repairing the main board isn't advisable. Too many components were visibly burnt, and many more could be damaged but unseen.

In this situation, a donor board is minimally required, along with considerable time and effort. However, there's no guarantee that the board can be repaired successfully and function properly afterward 😒.

Therefore, we decided not to proceed with the repair and returned the phone to the customer in its original condition.
