Today, we received a fairly new Samsung Galaxy A35 for repair with an issue – it’s not charging.
When a charging cable is connected, the tester shows a short circuit.
We begin disassembling the phone by heating and removing the back cover.
After disassembly, we check where the issue lies.
We disconnect the flex cable from the bottom board and the display, then connect the charger.
Since there’s no short circuit in this state, it becomes clear that the problem is on the main (mother) board.
We start the repair by checking the OVP (Over Voltage Protection) chip, since this is most often the cause.
The chip is located on the backside of the main board under a metal shield.
We carefully cut out a small section of the metal shield to gain access to the chip.
It’s clearly visible that the OVP chip is partially burnt and needs to be replaced.
We desolder a working chip from a donor board.
We happen to have a Samsung A15 in stock, which uses a compatible chip.
We reball it and install the working chip onto the board. In the photo – the burnt one is shown next to it 😊
We reinstall the board into the phone housing for testing.
We test the phone with different charging modes – everything is working fine now 👍
