Samsung Galaxy S21 FE SM-G990

Another Samsung Galaxy S21 FE came in for repair, with the reported issue: it’s not charging.

We already know that one of the most common causes of charging or display issues on Samsung smartphones is weak or faulty flex cable connectors.

Let’s see if that’s the case this time 🧐

1️⃣ We start by removing the phone’s back cover.

2️⃣ Next, we unscrew the screws and remove the protective cover over the motherboard.

3️⃣ Disconnect the inter-board flex cable and inspect the connectors.

We can see that the right edge of the connector on the main board is cracked.

This kind of damage often disrupts charging, as the charging lines run right along the edges of the connector.

4️⃣ As usual, we proceed to disconnect and desolder the damaged connector.

We clean and prep the contact pad for the replacement.

Then, we install a new connector and reinforce the solder points under a microscope for extra reliability.

5️⃣ Apply flux, reassemble the board into the housing, and run a functionality test.

Testing confirms the phone now charges properly in all modes 👍
