A Samsung Note 10 Plus came in for repair with an issue on the charging line.
When connecting a charger, the power supply shuts off due to a short circuit on the charging line.
However, the phone itself works and charges normally through wireless charging.
We begin by removing the back cover and disassembling the phone for diagnostics.
Using a lab power supply, we identify the area on the motherboard that heats up, indicating the short.
We carefully cut out a section of the metal shield to gain better access to the faulty chip.
It becomes clear that at least the OVP chip (FPF3788UCX) is burnt out.
So we’ll start by replacing this component 😊
From the chip name, OVP stands for Over Voltage Protection—its purpose is to protect the device from voltage spikes. In this case, the chip did its job and protected the phone, but it didn’t survive the surge itself 😂
We remove the damaged chip and install a new one.
We then connect the board to the lab power supply to test it—there’s no longer a short on the charging line.
We reinstall the board into the housing and test the actual charging function on the phone.
Charging works normally in all modes, and there is no overheating.
After confirming that all other functions are working, we can fully reassemble the phone 👍
