Step 3. Open the back cover

After that, we need to heat the surface of the back cover to approximately 70 degrees Celsius or 160 degrees Fahrenheit. For this, we use a heating mat, but you can also use a hair dryer.

After approximately 10 minutes, we move on to separating the back cover.

To remove the back cover, we use a thin plastic film. We carefully insert it into the gap between the back cover and the mid-frame, and carefully run it along the edge, cutting through the adhesive layer.

As always, you need to be careful around the side buttons and the fingerprint sensor, but it is better not to run the tool through this area at all, since the flex cables are located very close to the cover.

They may be slightly glued down in some places, and it is very easy to damage them here. It is better to lift the cover at the end (of separating the cover) and open it without touching the flex cables in this area.

You also need to be careful around the cameras so that you do not accidentally touch or damage the lenses.

The cover is also additionally glued around the camera area, so we need to use a thicker tool.

The camera cover itself is also slightly thicker in the area where the cameras are located. We can press lightly on the cover in this area and lift it up. Don’t press on the board!

Step 4. Unscrew the screws

After that, it is better to cover the camera lenses. For this, we use a special film. Please note that we apply the film not to the lenses themselves, but to the rim around them.

So, after covering the lenses, we move on to removing the screws in the upper part. For this, we use a 1.5 mm Phillips screwdriver or Philips #000.

Huawei traditionally uses non-magnetic screws, and they are difficult to remove, so we also use tweezers.

Also note that there are antenna traces around the screws on the cover.

You also need to be very careful here so that you do not accidentally touch or damage them.

Now we can use a non-metallic tool to separate the cover in the upper part.

We carefully pry it up by the edge and lift it. The cover is glued down in one area, so we carefully cut through the remaining adhesive and remove the cover.

The back cover has contact pads and antenna traces on it.

We disconnect the first rear camera and disconnect the connector for the second rear camera.

And as we can see, at this point we cannot disconnect the large rear camera because it is glued or attached to a plate that is quite wide, and it cannot be removed at this stage.

So, we disconnect the front-facing camera.

It is also better to cover the front camera lens so that no debris or dust gets onto it.

Finally, we move on to removing the battery.

As is traditional with Huawei, there are three brown tabs.

Two are located on the sides and need to be folded back, while the tab in the middle needs to be carefully pulled upward to remove the battery. In practice, the tabs tear off because the quality is very poor.

But at some point, we can remove the battery. Under the battery, there is an adhesive transparent protective layer that protects the interconnect flex cables.
