Step 2. Remove the tray
First of all, we need to remove the card tray.
To do this, we use a special tool, insert it into the hole, and carefully push the card tray out.
Step 3. Open the back cover
After that, we need to heat the surface of the back cover to a temperature of approximately 70 degrees Celsius or 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
For this, we use a heating pad, but you can also use a hair dryer.
After about 10 minutes, we can move on to separating the back cover.
To detach the back cover, we use a thin plastic film. This can be a protective film from a new display or a film from a stationery store.
Carefully insert the film into the gap between the back cover and the midframe, and gently run it along the edge, cutting through the adhesive layer.
Please note that the back cover is slightly recessed, so you need to carefully try to lift it with a thin tool. In general, after that we can already use a thicker tool.
Step 4. Unscrew the screws
After that, it’s better to cover the camera lenses. For this, we use a special film.
Please note that we apply the film not to the lenses themselves, but to the rim around them.
Next, we need to unscrew the screws. For this, we use a 1.5 mm Phillips screwdriver or a Phillips #000.
It’s better to place the screws in a specific order on a dedicated surface, because screws may not thread properly if installed in the wrong holes.
Step 5. Open the cover
So, after that, we need to detach the cover in the upper part.
It’s better to use a non-metal tool so as not to short anything on the printed circuit board.
The cover has antenna traces on it.

Step 8. Open the cover
After that, we detach the cover in the lower part.
For this, we use tweezers.
Carefully pry it up in the correct place, lift it, and remove the cover.
Step 9. Remove the inter-board cable
Next, we need to disconnect the interconnect flex cable.
To do this, we disconnect the connectors on the sub-board, then disconnect the connector on the motherboard, and move the interconnect flex cable aside.
Step 10. Unscrew one screw
Then we need to unscrew one screw that secures the sub-board.
For this, we use a Phillips #000 screwdriver.
Please note that this screw is different from the previous ones.
Step 11. Disconnect the connectors
Now we need to disconnect the fingerprint sensor connector, disconnect or peel off the display connector, and we also need to disconnect two connectors of the two coaxial cables.
Step 12. Remove the sub-board
And now we can remove the sub-board.
Carefully pry it up in the correct place, lift it, and take it out.
On the sub-board, there are: the charging port, the microphone, and other components on the reverse side.
Step 13. Remove the cameras
We can disconnect the cameras.
Carefully pry at the edge and remove the rear cameras.
At this stage, we can disconnect only two rear cameras.
Then we can disconnect the front camera.
It’s also better to cover the front camera lens with film so that debris or dust does not get on it.
Step 15. Unscrew one screw
After that, we need to unscrew one screw that secures the motherboard.
This screw is different from the previous ones, and it’s also better to keep it separately.
Step 16. Remove the motherboard
And we can remove the motherboard. Carefully pry it up, lift it, and remove the motherboard.
â ī¸ī¸ Do not bend the circuit board when removing it or push tools under it. Unbeknownst to yourself, you can damage components or cables from the inside.
