Step 2. Remove the tray
As usual, the first thing we need to do is remove the SIM card tray.
To do that, we use a SIM eject tool, insert it into the eject hole, and push the SIM card tray out.
Step 3. Open the back cover
Next, we need to heat the back cover to approximately 70°C (160°F).
We're using a heating mat for this, but you can also use a hair dryer.
After about 7 to 10 minutes, we can begin separating, or peeling off, the back cover. To do that, we use a thin plastic film, insert it into the gap between the back cover and the midframe cover, and carefully slide it around the edge, cutting through the adhesive.
As always, be especially careful around the camera module so you don't accidentally touch or damage the camera lenses.
At this point, we can remove the back cover. As you can see, there are no components attached to it.
Step 4. Unscrew the screws
Next, we move on to removing the screws in the upper section. We use a 1.5 mm Phillips screwdriver, also known as a Phillips #000.
Carefully remove the screws and arrange them in order on a magnetic mat or another organized surface.
Since screws don't always thread properly if they're installed in different holes, it's best to return each screw to the same hole it came from.
Step 5. Unscrew the screws
After that, we remove the screws from the lower section.
It's also a good idea to keep these screws separate from the upper ones.
If the old adhesive covers any of the screws, carefully peel it back.
If a screw gets stuck, we can remove it with a pair of tweezers.
Step 6. Open the mid-frame
Next, we need to remove the midframe cover.
Insert a thin plastic opening tool into the gap between the midframe cover and the display frame near the SIM card tray opening.
Carefully release a few clips, and then switch to a thicker plastic opening tool.
Step 7. Disconnect the battery connector
Disconnect the battery connector as soon as possible. Use a plastic or other non-metallic tool to prevent any damage.
ℹ️️ The Samsung Galaxy M55 SM-M556 uses a HQ-6887NAS rechargeable battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh.
Step 8. Remove the loudspeaker
Next, we can remove the loudspeaker assembly in the lower section.
Carefully pry it up from the correct location, lift it out, and set it aside.
Step 9. Remove the interconnect cables
Then disconnect the flex cables and move them aside.
The interconnect flex cables have arrows printed on them indicating the direction toward the mainboard.
Step 11. Disconnect the connectors
After that, disconnect the fingerprint sensor, and peel away the display flex connector pad.
Step 12. Remove the sub-board
Now we can remove the sub-board, which sits slightly recessed in the frame and is held in place on one side by clips.
Lift out the sub-board.
The sub-board contains the charging port, the microphone, and other components on the reverse side.
The only components remaining in the display frame are the fingerprint sensor and the vibration motor.
Step 13. Remove the cameras
Now let's move on to the mainboard.
We can disconnect the rear cameras. It's a good idea to cover the camera lenses with protective film to keep dust and debris off them.
It's best to keep the thermal foil on the cameras intact, since we'll need them again during reassembly.
Also disconnect the front-facing camera, peel off its thermal foil, and set it aside.
Step 14. Remove the motherboard
Carefully remove the printed circuit board. There is no need to use a lever or try to reach the circuit board by force. Make sure that nothing is getting in the way or holding the circuit board.
The motherboard, also, may be attached with attachments like latches or hooks, be careful.
⚠️️ Do not bend the circuit board when removing it or push tools under it. Unbeknownst to yourself, you can damage components or cables from the inside.
Step 15. Remove the battery
Finally, we can remove the battery.
Fold back the transparent protective film around the edges, then pull upward on the blue pull tab.
Unfortunately, this type of Samsung battery has the same issue we've seen many times before.
On one side, the adhesive part tends to bond to the battery itself, making it difficult to remove cleanly.
It is better not to use force to avoid accidentally damaging the battery casing.
Eventually, we're able to remove the battery.
