Step 2. Remove the tray
Use the ejection tool (aka Needle) or Paperclip. Push the tip all the way into the hole until the tray ejects, and then pull the tray of SIM and Memory card (Micro SD) out.
â ī¸ī¸ Pay attention! The tool must be inserted into a hole on the edge of the phone's housing. Do not press too hard. It may break the tray eject mechanism.
Step 3. Open the back cover
We recommend using a special heating device such as a separator machine, heat gun, or heating mat. It will simplify the process. You can use a home hairdryer, but you will have to make a nozzle by hand or have a suitable one in the kit to gently heat and concentrate the heat flow in the right place.
âšī¸ī¸ The surface of the back cover must be heated to soften the adhesive underneath. The approximate heating temperature is 50° C / 125° F.
Use a thin plastic film or pick for separation. To facilitate the process, you can use isopropyl alcohol. It is often the most difficult to pass the tool between the parts to be divided. Choose the far edge from the FFC cables or buttons.
Do not use a lever or any force for separation that could damage the elements inside.
â ī¸ī¸ Pay attention to the fingerprint sensor cable! The cable connects the fingerprint sensor on the middle cover to the motherboard.
Step 4. Remove the frame of cameras
Using a spudger or a plastic pick, carefully, around the edge, detach the cover clips, and remove the cover protecting the cameras.
Step 5. Unscrew the screws
Using a screwdriver Phillips 1.5 mm (PH#000), unscrew the fifteen screws.
Step 6. Open the middle cover
Pry over the edges. Move an opening tool along the edge detach the clips and turn over the middle cover with transmission lines and pads for antenna. The middle cover protects the printed circuit board (PCB).
We turn it over because the fingerprint sensor is integrated in the middle cover and connected with a cable to the motherboard.
Try to lift the cover by the edges and don't push anything too far inside, so as not to accidentally break or short-circuit anything on the circuit board.
Step 7. Disconnect the battery connector
Disconnect the battery connector as soon as possible. It is better to use a non-metal or plastic tool to avoid any damage.
âšī¸ī¸ The Xiaomi POCO M4 Pro 5G model has a battery BN5C with 5000 mAh capacity (aka rechargeable battery).
Step 9. Remove the cameras
Carefully detach the rear cameras. It is better to hold the cameras slightly, so that they do not accidentally fly out and cannot damage the lenses.
We can also detach the front camera. The front camera is traditionally taped to the thermal dissipation film.
Step 10. Remove the inter-board cable
Carefully, preferably from the edge, disconnect the connectors and remove the inter-board cable connecting the mainboard to the daughterboard (also known as the sub-board).
â ī¸ī¸ Be careful when removing the cables from the connectors, the cables are pretty thin, and it is easy enough to break them or damage the contact tracks inside.
âšī¸ī¸ An arrow on the FFC cable (flexible flat cable) indicates its correct position.
Step 11. Unscrew one screw
Using a Philips 1.5 mm screwdriver (PH#000), unscrew one screw securing the loudspeaker.
Step 14. Remove the daughterboard
Remove the sub-board. It may be glued to the frame or attached with attachments like latches or hooks, so be careful.
âšī¸ī¸ The sub-board contains a charging port (Micro-USB), microphone, headphone jack socket, spring contacts for the speaker, vibration motor, and an antenna unit.
â ī¸ī¸ It is not necessary to insert the tool underneath when removing the sub-board. Internal components could be damaged.
Step 15. Disconnect the connectors
Pry up the connectors of the display module cable, two coaxial cables.
â ī¸ī¸ Be careful when removing the cables from the connectors, the cables are pretty thin, and it is easy enough to break them or damage the contact tracks inside.
Step 16. Remove the motherboard
Carefully remove the printed circuit board. There is no need to use a lever or try to reach the circuit board by force. Make sure that nothing is getting in the way or holding the circuit board.
The motherboard, also, may be attached with attachments like latches or hooks, be careful.
â ī¸ī¸ Do not bend the circuit board when removing it or push tools under it. Unbeknownst to yourself, you can damage components or cables from the inside.
Step 17. Remove the battery
There is a bunch of the brown tabs at the middle of the battery.
So, we read the description on these tabs to understand which tab we have to pull upwards.
Carefully, without extreme efforts we pull the tab with the letter "A" with one hand and hold the display frame with the other hand.
