Step 2. Remove the tray
Use the ejection tool (aka Needle) or Paperclip. Push the tip all the way into the hole until the tray ejects, and then pull the tray of SIM cards out.
â ī¸ī¸ Pay attention! The tool must be inserted into a hole on the edge of the phone's housing. Do not press too hard. It may break the tray eject mechanism.
Step 3. Open the back cover
We need to heat the surface of the back cover up to a temperature of about 65-70 ° C or 160 ° F. For this we use a heating mat you can use a hair dryer. And after 5-7 minutes we can move on to removing the back cover.
To detach the back cover, we will use a plastic film, it is a protective film from the new display. We insert it into the gap between the middle cover and the back cover, at the far corner from the cameras and run it lengthwise.
We can also additionally use isopropyl alcohol to make the process easier and dry the adhesive base.
We always need to be careful around the side buttons, because there may be a cable in this area and it can be damaged. We also need to be careful in the cameras area so that we don't damage the lenses.
Step 5. Open the cover
Now we can detach the middle cover. Carefully hook it by the edge and lift it up.
In our case we have one more connector in the middle, which was disconnected together with the cover. But as I understand it, we can disconnect it separately.
Step 6. Disconnect the battery connector
Disconnect the battery connector as soon as possible. It is better to use a non-metal or plastic tool to avoid any damage.
âšī¸ī¸ The OnePlus 9RT 5G model has connected two batteries (connected in parallel or two cells) BLP861 with 2200 mAh + 2250 mAh capacity (aka rechargeable battery).
Step 7. Unscrew the screws
And we move on to unscrewing the eight screws at the bottom. The screwdriver is the same 1.5mm Phillips #000 screwdriver. The screws at the top and bottom may be different, so we recommend placing them on a special surface in an easy to remember order for reassembly or take a picture.
Step 8. Open the cover
At this point we have an intricate connection system and this design is quite difficult to disassemble. That's why we first have to detach the cover hiding the sub-board and turn it over.
Step 9. Disconnect the connectors
Disconnect the coaxial cable connector, display cable connector, fingerprint sensor cable connector inter-board cable connectors.
â ī¸ī¸ Do not pull on the cable or pry it with a sharp tool, the connectors are pretty weak and break easily, or the cable falls out of the end (lug).
Step 10. Unscrew one screw
Using a Philips 1.5 mm screwdriver (PH#000), unscrew one screw securing the sub-board.
Step 11. Remove the daughterboard
Remove the sub-board. It may be glued to the frame or attached with attachments like latches or hooks, so be careful.
âšī¸ī¸ The sub-board contains a microphone, spring contacts for the speaker, vibration motor, and an antenna unit.
â ī¸ī¸ It is not necessary to insert the tool underneath when removing the sub-board. Internal components could be damaged.
Step 14. Disconnect the connectors
Pry up the connectors of the display module cable, inter-board cables, and the two connectors of two coaxial cables.
Step 15. Remove the cameras
Detach the front camera. As usual, the front camera is glued to the shield on the circuit board with a heat dissipating coating. We can detach the rear cameras. We also hook by the edge and detach it.
The large camera is glued to the frame of the display frame we need to be careful. And the two small cameras are secured in the assembly, so we just need to disconnect the connectors and take out the whole assembly.
Step 16. Unscrew the screws
Unscrew the two screws that secure the motherboard. The screwdriver is the same Phillips 1.5mm screwdriver.
Step 17. Remove the motherboard
Carefully remove the printed circuit board. There is no need to use a lever or try to reach the circuit board by force. Make sure that nothing is getting in the way or holding the circuit board.
The motherboard, also, may be attached with attachments like latches or hooks, be careful.
â ī¸ī¸ Do not bend the circuit board when removing it or push tools under it. Unbeknownst to yourself, you can damage components or cables from the inside.
Step 18. Remove the battery
And we move on to detaching the battery. We need to unwrap the two dark brown tabs and pull them up. First, we unwrap and pull the first tab, then we repeat the same actions for the second tab.
Step 19. In the display frame remained
âšī¸ī¸ In the display frame remained: the earpiece speaker, vibration motor, fingerprint sensor, charging port, small board and two coaxial cables.
